Availability Group Icons

Definition {#definition}

The Availability Group icon appears in the Servers grid when a SQL Server instance participates in one or more Always On Availability Groups. The icon is a compact topology picture: the triangle lines show the AG relationship, and the colored dots summarize health.

Icon Meanings {#detail}

Healthy Primary and secondary summaries are OK.
Warning At least one secondary replica rolled up to warning, while at least one secondary is still OK.
Critical The primary summary or at least one secondary summary is critical.
·2 Multiple AGs The count badge appears when the server participates in more than one AG.

Dot positions:

  • Top dot: primary health summary.
  • Bottom-left dot: worst secondary health summary. "Worst" means the lowest health state found across secondary replicas, using the grid health order: critical, warning, unknown, then OK.
  • Bottom-right dot: best secondary health summary. "Best" means the highest health state found across secondary replicas, using the same order.
  • Emerald triangle lines: topology only; line color does not represent health.
  • ·N badge: the server is in more than one AG.

Health colors follow the same grid language used elsewhere: green is OK, yellow is warning, red is critical, and gray means no useful state is available.

The best/worst secondary dots are a range, not a ranking of server quality. If both secondary dots are green, all known secondaries are OK. If the worst dot is red and the best dot is green, at least one secondary is critical and at least one secondary is OK. If both dots match, all known secondaries are currently in the same rolled-up health state.

Walkthrough {#walkthrough}

  1. Open the Servers grid.
  2. Find a row with the AG triangle icon.
  3. Hover the icon to read which AGs the instance belongs to.
  4. Check the dot positions to tell whether the problem is primary-side, secondary-side, or mixed.
  5. If the count badge is visible, expand the row or open the server detail because there is more than one AG to inspect.
  6. Hover the icon and press F1 to return to this page when the meaning is not obvious.

When a server is missing the AG icon, Minion Enterprise has not found AG membership for that instance in the current grid data.
