Alerting has three separate pieces, kept apart on purpose so you can mix and match them: a Channel (where an alert goes -- Teams, Slack, Discord, Google Chat, Mattermost, Rocket.Chat, a generic webhook, or email), a Style (what it says -- a reusable subject/body template), an optional Schedule (when the rule is actually active), and a Rule that attaches a job or step, at a specific outcome (Failed, Succeeded, etc.), to one Channel, one Style, and optionally one Schedule.
Setting up a rule
From a job's Alerts button, a step's bell icon, or the step detail panel's Alerts... button, pick a Channel and a Style for whichever outcome you want to be notified about. If you don't have a Style you like yet, the Manage Styles link takes you straight to the Message Styles page without losing your place.
Restricting a rule to certain hours
The When picker next to the rule form defaults to (Always) -- the rule fires regardless of time. Pick a named schedule instead to restrict that specific rule to its time windows. The Manage Schedules link opens Admin -> Alert Schedules if you don't have one yet.
Seeing what's attached at a glance
Every step in a job's Steps list carries its own bell (alert rules) and no-entry (gates) icon. A small badge shows up on either one once something is actually attached, with the count -- no badge means nothing's attached yet.
